"In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park hikers are required to stay at the shelters there is no camping allowed away from the shelters. This often makes it a race to reach a shelter before it fills up and you are required to either go to the next one or tent in what might be horrible weather. I am anxious about the Smokies. They are difficult. The trail follows the ridge lines, mostly. We will go over Clingmans Dome, the highest point on the entire AT in a few days."
